Meet Maria

Where are you from originally? If not from LA, how did you end up here?
I was born in Providence, Rhode Island and my parents brought our family to CA when I was 3 years old because my father was very tired of shoveling snow. We settled with family in Inglewood. I attended Catholic elementary, high school and college in the area achieving a MS in Special Education, BA in Business and Child Studies.
Tell us about your occupation.
My position is the Executive Director for the programs for children and adults at Carousel. Our centers offer opportunities for typical Infants and Preschoolers, Students with special needs in a Non Public School an After School Program and Adults with disabilities. It is my responsibility to act as the administrator of our company.
Why did you join Rotary and what is your favorite Rotary experience?
My interest in Rotary was to be more involved in our community and to meet people and business owners with similar interests. There have been several memorable Rotary moments but some of the best have been with our adopt a family experiences that have brought much needed items and joy to the children and parents. The scholarship presentations are so touching after hearing the determination of our applicants.
What does your perfect weekend look like?
A perfect weekend is to have no chaos and daily craziness and being able to lay in our pool reading people magazines.
