Community
Community service is one of the Avenues of Service which encourages Rotarians to offer service to their local and regional communities. Every Rotary Club and every Rotarian assumes a responsibility to find ways to improve the quality of life for those in their communities and to serve the public interest.

Habitat for Humanity (Culver City, CA Build)
- Playa Venice spearheaded a 12-club effort to help build ten homes for deserving westside families. We raised $75,000 and sparked over 1600 volunteer hours.
- Our club continues to swing hammers at Habitat builds throughout Los Angeles.
Adopt-A-Family
- During each holidays, Rotarians annually adopt numerous needy families in our community.
- Families identified by our partner organizations are paired with groups of Rotarians, who with the support of the Foundation work to ensure the families’ holiday wishes come true and are a reality.
- Rotarians have provided families with new mattresses, beds, cookware, clothing, toys, school supplies, and every day necessities that many of us take for granted.
Community Build a Bear
- Each year, Rotarians enjoy a day of fellowship at our local Build A Bear store as we create approximately 50 personalized stuffed animals that are donated to the CARES Program at County USC Medical Center.
- The animals are given a name, birth certificate and personalized note and CARES distributes them during the year to children predominantly of low-income families fighting challenging health or family issues to bring comfort and happiness to them.
Mar Vista Family Center – Community Food Distribution
- During this year long pandemic, we have partnered with the Mar Vista Family Center to address hunger in our community.
- During this critical time, we continue to provide resources and volunteer on a weekly basis to help pick up, sort, package, and distribute boxes of food to hundreds of needy families each week.
Fire Station Pancake Breakfast
- Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary Club organizes, plans, and directly raises funds for two local Fire Stations through annual Pancake Breakfasts.
- The funds raised go directly to assist each fire station so that they can update their facilities, obtaining new appliances, replacing old mattresses, and other necessities for the men and women who serve at the respective stations.
Midnight Mission
- To fight the epidemic of homelessness, our Rotarians commit their time and partner with the Midnight Mission by feeding between 500-800 homeless on Skid Row.
- In addition, we donate much needed everyday supplies such as bottled water, cutlery, clothing, toiletries, and much-treasured desserts to those who find refuge at the Midnight Mission.
Westside Pacific Villages
- The Foundation supports our partner the Westside Pacific Villages, and the local seniors that they serve.
- The Foundation and Rotary Club have supported WPV by sponsoring and promoting events, preparing homemade cookies for delivery to homebound senior neighbors, and making Christmas wreaths to brighten the season for the residents.
Community Santa Tour
- Every December, the Foundation, along with the Rotary Club, LAPD, and LAFD, sponsor a tradition of visiting several neighborhoods in the Playa Del Rey and Westchester area.
- The Sled with Santa is pulled by LAPD, with fire trucks with sirens following behind.
- The Foundation supports and provides funding to each of the local stops, where families, children, and the community gather for the holidays spirt.
