Nothing we do is of value
if there is no Love!
Dear Rotarians and Friends,
We are gearing towards our busy club season! From Arabian Nights to Adopt a Family and in between several projects such as Build a Bear, Rise against Hunger, Walk to end Alzheimer, The District Benefit concert etc.
Before we plunge into all that, I wanted to pause and make sure first and foremost that our Playa Venice Spirit is there: I went back and read what I wrote to the club in my first newsletter : Let’s never place any kind of activity, either service or fellowship, before the spirit of being a family!
I do believe that we cannot give what we don’t have! So, Let’s serve and fundraise with a spirit of care among us. It’s only then, that the recipients of our actions will feel happy and will want to pay it forward. Yom Kippur’s message guides me to do an examination of conscience and purify my heart and thoughts, then make peace with those around me at home, work or in the club.
I invite you to join me in this beautiful journey because…Nothing we do is of value if there is no Love!
Joe Chehade, Club President
Coming up this Wednesday
Our Speaker this week is Maritza Morales, the Executive Director at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Auxiliary CARES whose primary mission is to “benefit patients by adding comfort to their hospital stay and providing services that help the patients access quality health care.” Her talk will be more of a Q & A with Kathrine Russell. Maritza has been helping suffering children for over 20 years! She will say why she chose to dedicate her career to children and how we can engage with devastated parents of sick children. Maritza will also share with us a tip or two on how our club can get involved to help children in our community.
Maritza’s organization is the recipient of the bears we will “build” this Sunday October 9 at our Charity Build a Bear. The event will conclude with a quick bite together. More details and a sign up sheet will be available at the meeting. You can also sign up using THIS LINK . Check these happy pictures from last year:
This Wednesday is also our last meeting outdoors. Mornings are becoming a little chilly and humid at the Marina! So come and enjoy the last “Al Fresco” meeting!

postponed
Our monthly Happy Hour for October has been postponed one week to Thursday October 13 at 5:30 pm at Brizo in Marina del Rey! Thank you Maria Davis for organizing!
ARABIAN NIGHTS
Online registration
The tickets to our Cultural Dinner always sell out, so don’t wait long before you register. You can do that online: CLICK HERE, or email/text Gwen with your reservation.
Sponsorships
It’s also not late to ask your company or a friend’s company to be a sponsor for the event, even if they don’t plan to attend. They’ll be recognized in the program, the powerpoint projection and on our website. Remember to mention that 99% of their donation will go directly to fund our charity events! See below the levels of sponsorships.
Auctions
The committee will continue to take auction items after the deadline. They are also looking for more hotel stays if you have any connections.
BRING A FRIEND
TO ROTARY
meeting is less than a month ahead: Wednesday November 2. Start putting your thinking head on: Who you will invite: a co-worker, a family member, a neighbor, a community leader, etc.
If Rotary has been good to you, it must be good to others too! So, it’s time for you to pay it forward! You don’t have to explain a lot. The membership committee will be preparing a good program. Watch this video to get started.
CARLA DICKERSON
Is the July Rotarian of the Month!
Carla was recognized last week for her willingness to take on two tasks when we couldn’t find any volunteers for a while. The first is committing to do the weekly powerpoint presentation. Carla also filled-in to coordinate our participation at the District picnic! Thank you Carla and grateful for your presence in our Club!
