     Last Week's Meeting Highlights
LAST WEEK’S Club meeting was held at LAX and it was so much fun! We learned a lot about the history, evolution and future growth of LAX. We started with a continental breakfast at the Flight Path Museum and then we were taken on a behind the scenes, guided tour - courtesy of our own Charles Pannunzio! We are so grateful to Charles and the other LAWA staff members that helped make this such a fun and informative morning!!

*S.P.Y. "SAFE PLACE FOR YOUTH*
Providing Lunch & Donation Drop-off

A lively group of Rotarians spent Friday Morning volunteering at S.P.Y., A Safe Place For Youth’s Access Center. In addition to serving approximately 50 youth a hot Italian lunch which included cold drinks and cookies, we dropped off our donation of socks, underwear and personal care items and the proceeds from our S.P.Y. jar. It was wonderful to spend time there and the teens and staff could not have been more kind and grateful for our service.

Thank you to Jan Osgood for chairing this event as well as Box O’Sox co-chair Gail Goldstein for pulling together such a huge donation. Thank you to our members for your hands on service including Jan Osgood, Rob Bird, Lucy Wegner, Gwen Vuchsas, Marcia Wietecha and Cantalini’s Salerno Beach Restaurant for providing lunch!

* SERVICE PROJECTS ON THE HORIZON *

Fall has definitely arrived and the weather is most certainly getting cooler.  The next few months can be very challenging for many and our Club wants to help. Service above Self is what we’re all about and our Club truly shines when it comes to generosity and service, benefiting all of Los Angeles and beyond!

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, begins this Wednesday at Sundown. We wish all who celebrate a very sweet New Year!
And this year, we will participate in
Temple Emanuel’s support of the
HOLLYWOOD FOOD COALITION,
which
focuses on creating a city where everyone has food, community, and support.

Please help by donating “keep warm” products for the cold winter months -

Gently used coats, jackets, sweatshirts, beanies, blankets, even sleeping bags. We will be assembling more of our “toiletry care kits” for this very worthy cause. Thank you so much for your kind consideration.

* FOOD DRIVE FOR SENIORS *

Also this month, we would like to introduce a
food drive, chaired by Stephanie Rondeau,
benefitting the Senior Pride Pantry at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, which supports over 400 food-insecure seniors. We will be collecting food throughout the next 6 weeks and will drop off our donations on 11/16. I have a list of needed items which we will post on our bulletin board and a collection box will be kept near the badge table - your support and generosity is greatly appreciated.

* HOLIDAY ADOPT A FAMILY *

And December would not be complete without our support of the Mar Vista Family Center through our “Adopt a Family” program coming up in December - Look for details next month from Co-Chairs Martha Jeffers and Iris Monreal. This is one of my all time favorite programs!!

* DISTRICT FUN *

Saturday morning, Co-President Brady attended the “President’s Brunch Social” hosted by DG Albert Hernandez. They met at Tequilas Burbank and had a wonderful time sharing stories of a successful first quarter and the incredible service projects happening in our district.

* COMMUNITY SUPPORT *

On Saturday evening, a few members rolled the dice at the Westchester Mental Health Guild’s fundraiser “Havana Nights”. The night was filled with Cuban beats, treats from Porto’s Bakery, lots of Casino Action, a collection of beautiful classic cars and great raffle gifts - thank you President Janie Guthrie and your team for such a fun night! Funds raised by the WMHG provide direct support for the Airport Marina Counseling Service, led by our friend and community Partner, Eden Garcia-Balis; we were very proud to support them and their important work.
