Dear Playa Venice Rotarians & Friends,
So many emotions flowing for us all...I have heard from many of you who are struggling financially, and many emotionally. I’d like to do two things tomorrow: first, let’s have a regular club meeting where we reaffirm our purpose as Rotarians, and second, champion each other during these tough times...
New member Ramona Ivy has agreed to give her craft talk tomorrow where she will tell us about her life, her family, and her career. Yes, there is a lot going on right now, but we must continue to invest in each other and always learn as much as we can about fellow members. As an added dimension to the morning (assuming I can pull it off technically!), I will continue the Zoom after the main meeting for those who want to stay and participate, where members will be grouped into breakout sessions. Each group of 4 will have time to share, offer information, and lend an ear. Please stick around if you can!
We’ll gather at 7:30am, begin the meeting at 8, finish by 9, then do two or three breakout sessions. Here is the recurring link:
If you’re interested, here is a different link to last week’s Zoom meeting video, which includes the Bring a Friend to Rotary info about the club and Rotary International, and guest speaker Matt Tecle from Councilmember Mike Bonin’s office. Thank you, Matt!!!

Giant shout outs to more amazing work being done by Rotarians and Rotarian family members this week... I’m sure there is much more happening – sorry if I’ve left anything out!...
- The club had set aside money for the Boys and Girls Club of Venice, and they have chosen to apply that money to some of their families in desperate need of food. Thank you Howard Pollack and Rainbow Acres for stretching the dollars as far as they could go. It’s gut wrenching to think that our little club is part of the solution to helping put food on the tables of families in our own community, but it’s true. All 31 grateful families have picked up their food. More club resources will be called upon next week to do more of the same. Thank you Tracey Thomson Busa for coordinating!!!
- Melissa Moore’s son works in the ICU in Glendale where last week, 95% of his patients were COVID-19 patients. Thank you to your amazing son, Melissa!!!
- Melissa and also member Sharma Henderson are offering assistance to anyone who is trying to navigate the small business loan application process. Thank you Melissa and Sharma!! melissa@mooremoney.co sharma@sharmahenderson.com
- Bobbie Casalino-Lewis is looking for members who would like to contribute to lunch packages being delivered to local seniors on April 24. We’re asking for zip locks of cookies with attached notes of encouragement to seniors. Tracey Thomson Busa tntbusa@ca.rr.com is coordinating the pickups, and Bobbie is taking care of the deliveries. For more info about Westside Pacific Villages: https://thewpv.org/
- Members Declan Geraghty and Nora MacLellan continue to work on providing more face shields, plus mask strap adapters, to local health care workers and others in need of PPE. Thank you Declan for putting the resources of your printing business, http://geraphix.com, to contribute during the crisis, and thank you Nora for getting items in the hands of those who need them most!
- Join John Sharpe’s Friday Night Live concerts every Friday at 6:00 via the @wamblockparty Instagram feed to support musicians while venues are closed.
- The Blood Drive on Sunday was a complete success thanks to the efforts of our club, the LAX Coastal Chamber, Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital, and Westchester Elks. Every appointment was filled (that was the goal!), and we are trying to figure out if we can be a part of another one. Thank you members Paola Melis and Bonnie Cullinan for getting the word out!
Keep up the amazing work, Rotarians. #RotaryResponds #playavenicerocks
A nice YouTube video reminder about gratitude – thanks Howard!
On the social side, we’re looking at a full-on May 5thCinco de Mayo margarita happy hour. Put it in your calendar, and start pulling out your margarita recipes. Also, Thursday night April 30that 7:00 I’m pulling together a Zoom where we can share with each other about our respective business/job/career situations. Save the date and I’ll provide more details asap!
The birthday fairy will announce April birthdays tomorrow!
In Rotary service,
