ROTARIAN OF THE MONTH

Last week, we announced MATTHEW LAWRENCE, our youngest member, as the Rotarian of the month for December for his contributions to the success of our Adopt-A-Family program and the Santa Tour. Among other things:
-He transported all the gift wrap to & from Visitation for the Club gift wrapping party.
-He shopped for his Adopt A Family & transported all the wrapped gifts and two upholstered living room chairs, side table & ottomans & a trundle bed.
-He picked up & delivered a kitchen table & two chairs for Kelly Trombley's Adopt A Family team.
-He found out that a young man from Kathrine's Adopt A Family team is enrolled in Trade Tech school to study Auto Mechanics. So Matthew volunteered to shop for and purchase a mobile tool box carrier when asked by Kathrine. Then he donated some of his personal tools to the young man & asked his co workers and collected more tools. That was not enough for him. He called his Mack Tool dealer and got more tools donated!
-He picked up a stove in El Segundo donated by James Frawley for the Adopt A family & then delivered it to the 2nd floor apartment and helped install it
-He helped Gwen pick up & then return all the Candy Canes stanchions & signs for the Santa Tour
-He served as "the best dressed" Security officer on the North Pole Security team at the Santa Tour.
He did all that with a smiling face and a kind heart!

HIKE RECAP

Vida Ash writes:
Our first hike was extremely successful. Nine people showed up around 8 am and we started the hike by 8:15. We reached our destination which was a 3.5 mile hike in one hour and 40 minutes. Round trip was 7 miles. We went up to the top where back in the 1950s, that spot served as a mountaintop military installation to defend Los Angeles from Soviet missile attacks. Today, the 1,960-foot peak provides visitors with a look back at this chapter in the city’s history, along with a great view of West LA, the Santa Monica Mountains and the Valley.
We had near perfect weather, overcast and on the way back we got hit with some drizzle. Everyone made it back down to the parking lot by 11ish. Tracey, Peter, and I went to have lunch nearby in Brentwood Country Market with delicious food and much needed wine for Peter!

PROTECTORS’ WEEK

On Monday, some of us met at the Marina del Rey Fire Department to thank the men and women who put their lives in danger us. We brought them lunch from Tony Ps.
On Wednesday, we will do the same for the Marina del Rey Sheriff Department.
This is an LAX Chamber of Commerce initiative. Thank you Kelli and Mary Catherine for leading that effort!
