Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Joe didn’t have time to brew a full cup this week. Instead, here’s just a “ristretto”: (a short shot) that hopefully delivers the same flavor of us being a Family.
I’ve been meditating recently on “Mercy.” I invite you to read the following in a meditative way to help you be inspired to apply it in your lives. You can skip directly to the next paragraph if you just need to know about our news, for now.
What is Mercy? Who are the merciful?
The merciful are those whose hearts are filled with concrete love towards the least, the forgotten and the poor. Isn’t this exactly what we did at Rise against Hunger and are doing now in our Adopt-A-Family program? Many of us have already reached out to our families, established a first bond, delivered our Love in the shape of a basket.
The word mercy comes from the Hebrew rehem, ‘womb’ evoking a sense of the limitless love that a mother feels for her child. It is ‘a love that does not measure!
Thanksgiving also is a perfect time to practice Mercy. Many of us will remember the less fortunate. For me, another way to practice Mercy on Thanksgiving day is when I will meet this one family member that has probably offended me in the past. I’ll make an effort to take the first step to forgive and be forgiven. I’ll try to imagine how this person’s mother would behave towards him or her?
Mercy has the power to create a new humanity! Isn’t that what Rotary is doing?
(Wordshere were inspired from “The Word of Life” written by an Italian friend, Letizia Magri)
