Dear Playa Venice Rotarians & Friends,
Our meeting tomorrow is NOT at Whiskey Red’s– it’s at The Proud Bird restaurant at 11022 Aviation Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90045. Come celebrate Valentine’s Day (wear red!), hear Monica Lyons’s craft talk, and please bring diapers and other items for Camp Pendleton families for next week’s
Salute to Military Service. If you want to attend the luncheon on Feb 19 honoring Colonel Kevin Clark, register at
www.rotary5280.org. Cost is $40 today and goes to $45 tomorrow.
Thank you Lindsay Thomas, John Sharpe, and Gwen Vuchsas for your contributions to the Pageant of the Arts club competition on Saturday. The following students will represent Playa Venice at the district Pageant of the Arts competition on Mar 14: Kathy Syta (singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables), Stellan Swanlund (instrumentalist playing “All the Things You Are” and “Billy Bounce” by Charlie Parker), and Miles Collymore who will present his sculpture entitled “No Act Too Small.” At our March 4 club meeting, the students will come show us their talents before they go on to compete for their $1,000 scholarship. We’re still looking for a last-minute dance entrant if you know of any talented high-schoolers!
Happy Hour on Thursday at Yard House was great! Thank you Juliet for making the arrangements, and thanks everyone for coming – especially the families!
Reminder to contact Stephanie Davis at
westchesterhometown@yahoo.com if you want to
place an ad in the special
Playa Venice Rotary edition of the Hometown News. Due date is Feb 24. The more ads we buy, the more editorial space we get!
Thank you Deborah Gregory for joining us last week to tell us all about Ballona Renaissance’s plans to revitalize Ballona Creek. We look forward to the installation of The Interceptor later this year, which will help protect our local beaches and the Santa Monica Bay.
Remember if you have any auction items (we love gift certificates $25 and up) to donate for our
BINGOFEST fundraiser on March 7, let Tracey Thompson Busa know. Be sure to RSVP for the event at
www.playavenice.org. Spots are going fast!
