FORGIVENESS IS A CHOICE

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Last newsletter,  I wrote that the New Year is an opportunity to see everyone with new eyes. Few members commented  that it sounds great but probably a Utopia!

I found the answer to that statement last Sunday while attending the District Brunch and listening to the Director/Producer of the movie “Ferguson Rises” and his message to practice FORGIVENESS as a tool to restart a relationship. We were also inspired by Martin Luther King who was celebrated recently. One of his many quotes on forgiveness is "Forgiveness does not mean ignoring what has been done or putting a false label on an evil act. It means, rather, that the evil act no longer remains as a barrier to the relationship”

I continued to reflect on the power of forgiveness lately and, since I consider our club as a family, I share with you a beautiful reading on “Forgiveness In The Family” at the bottom of this newsletter, For those who wish to deepen this virtue. Forgiveness is a journey and a choice, not a feeling!

RECAP

Teachers Mini-Grants

There was nothing MINI about these grants! A giant effort between The LAX Chamber Education Committee and our Club. Thank you Gwen for chairing this event and for the team who made it happen. The 19 School Principals present at our meeting had genuine and grateful comments!

District Brunch

Twelve Playa Venice members joined hundreds of Rotatarians at this Brunch last Sunday. One keynote speaker was the director of the movie “Ferguson Rises.” It was very opportune before celebrating MLK day and a good reflection about treating each person with dignity. Here’s the movie trailer that we will also watch at our meeting.

Rotary Float at the Rose Parade

The Rotary float won the trophy for best small float! Peter had his glorious moment with Rotary International President Jennifer Jones. Thank you Juliet for always reminding us of this event!

Last but not Least

FAMILY, PLACE OF FORGIVENESS

There is no perfect family. We do not have perfect parents, we are not perfect, we do not marry a perfect person or have perfect children. We have complaints from each other. We disappoint each other. So there is no healthy marriage or healthy family without the exercise of forgiveness.

Forgiveness is vital to our emotional health and spiritual survival. Without forgiveness the family becomes an arena of conflict and a stronghold of hurt.

Without forgiveness, the family becomes ill. Forgiveness is the sepsis of the soul, the cleansing of the mind and the liberation of the heart.

That is why the family must be a place of life, not of death; Territory of cure and not of illness; Stage of forgiveness and not guilt. Forgiveness brings joy where sorrow has produced sadness; Healing, where sorrow has caused disease.

-Pope Francis
