It was a week of happiness!
Starting with Tuesday July 4th: Happy Birthday America! The 23rd Annual Westchester 4th of July Parade did not disappoint. The community showed up in a big way and even the sun, which had been on hiatus for the past 3.5 months made a surprise cameo appearance at approximately 9:30am and stayed for the remainder of that perfect day! Thank you PVS Rotarians, as usual, for answering the call to volunteer service: Jerry Jen (parade co-chair), Matthew Lawrence, Gail Goldstein, Rob Bird, Iris Monrreal, Peter Smyth, Jason Wong, Ramona Ivy, Gail Brooks, Marsha Wietecha, Melissa Moore, Stephanie Rondeau, Lisa Schwab, Tatiana More, Richard Florin, Bobbie Casalino-Lewis, Joe & Maria Davis, Jack Buckley, Brady Connell, Martha Jeffers, Ray & Carmina Morales, Kathrine Russell and parade founder 23 years ago...Gwen Vuchsas!
The event was followed by the annual post-parade “Thank You BBQ” hosted by Jim & Gwen at Casa Vuchsas. Mmmm, mmmm good eats and drinks!
Next up on the Happiness front: Wednesday July 5th - our first weekly club meeting of the new calendar year. We moved out onto the Whiskey Red’s patio (where we’ll remain, weather-permitting, through the end of October). It included a major surprise announcement by Kurtis and Tracey sharing that the County of LA donated $30k to the Inaugural Sunset Cruise benefiting inner-city youth. Wowzer! And young, talented and humble virtuoso, Mr. Kiev Morales, received our Annual "Rotarian At Heart" Award. Well-earned and well-deserved for this rising superstar! Lastly, I don’t recall the actual dollar amount, but there were A LOT of “Happy Buck$” flowin’!

Thursday July 6th presented the first Happy Hour gathering of our new calendar year. The venue: Killer Shrimp. Delicious food (try the Killer Steak Street tacos) and drinks (try the “Killer Mai-Tai”). We had approximately 15 rotarians show up and show out. It was a good time! And Tracey showed us the magnificent “Inaugural Sunset Cruise” cruise-ship docked right next to Killer Shrimp. Looks very fancy!

And finally, many happy Rotarians, along with lots of non-rotarians showed up Saturday July 8th for our very own Bobbie Casalino-Lewis to celebrate the release of her book – “So That’s What 70 Looks Like”. The book-signing celebration took place at The Book Jewel bookstore – a new crown-jewel in Westchester! Bobbie: you make 70 look good! And judging by the l-o-o-o-n-g line to get the book and your autograph, you adoring public wants to know your secret!
