Dear Playa Venice Rotarians & Friends,
At tomorrow’s virtual meeting, we’ll be visited by our amazing scholarship winners. Our club’s phenomenal scholarship program keeps on growing – we had over 100 applications this year. Thanks to the efforts of Gail Goldstein, the scholarship committee, many generous members, and of course the club’s fundraising efforts, we will be giving out thirteen $1,000 scholarships tomorrow. Please join us!
Tomorrow night, Wednesday May 27 at 6:00pm, you are all invited to enjoy the district
Pageant of the Arts Virtual Awards Ceremony and videos of the winning contestants. Register here to get the proper link information:

Kathrine Russell (district chair),
Gwen Vuchsas (SAG, Vocational),
Lindsay Thomas (chair for the club) and
Joerg Rose, John Sharpe, and Robin Mock who served as judges.
This
Saturday, May 30 starting at
10am, the district is holding the second half of the virtual
ROTARY CLUB ASSEMBLY. The first session from 10-11:00 will probably be of most interest to our members with three options: Membership (Peter Smyth and Carla Dickerson from our club are planning), Peace, or Public Relations. Joerg Rose is also running a web design session later in the day. Register here to attend any of the sessions:

Shout out to Raymond and Carmina Morales who helped raise $5,000 for food distribution in their neighborhood working with Cantalini’s restaurant. BTW, Cantalini’s also did 50 meals last week for Boys and Girls Club of Venice. Amazing stuff!
Last week I mentioned we made a donation to the Emergency Food Relief Project through our Rotary partners in Chapala, Mexico. Here are excerpts from the thank you note that was sent to past president Jim Vuchsas...
“Thank you to your club for your generous donation to the Chapala Sunrise Emergency Food Relief project. One of the most amazing things that I have seen is the power of Rotary and its
connections throughout this effort. We have clubs, such as yours, who are working within their own communities, but are also digging into their treasuries to help in the international arena. Our partnerships, with clubs such as yours, have helped us rapidly expand the work, as the food emergency grows. I have travelled with Rotary to India and Ghana on projects, and I am sorry to say, that the hunger needs here, in some of our local villages, now mirror what I experienced there. We appreciate the support that you are giving us during this extraordinarily difficult
time, world-wide.” Barbara Wilson - Chair, Emergency Food Relief 2020, Chapala Sunrise Rotary
Next week's meeting: General Secretary and CEO of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation is going to be our guest speaker. On this day only, we’ll gather at 8, Call to Order at 8:20, and take care of club business. We’ll need to end our club meeting around 8:50, then we’ll join a special Zoom meeting (which is being set up). John will join us at 9am and potentially go to 10. The entire district will be invited to join this Zoom.
We're having a good old fashioned (virtual) Happy Hour next Thursday June 4 6:00. No official activities, just socializing. We’ll do some breakout sessions for fun.
Lastly, we're having our end-of-Rotary-year Virtual Club Leadership Induction on Sunday, June 28 6:00 (not June 26) to induct Jerry and the new board!
As usual, tomorrow we’ll gather at 7:30 and begin the meeting at 8. Because our program involves students, we will jump right into the scholarship presentations, then finish up with some club business by 9:00. Then we’ll have one 10-minute bonus breakout session for anyone who wants to connect in a smaller group.
