Welcome to the PVSR Weekly Newsletter
2025 - 2026  Vol. 5

In a world that often rewards ego and speed, the quiet work of service calls us back to humility.
When we give from a place of care - not to fix,
but to connect - we allow the deeper essence
of who we are to emerge.

True service creates right relationship: with
others, the Earth, and ourselves. In those small,
unseen moments, we remember we belong to
one another - and that’s where real change
begins. We don’t just change the world.
We allow the world to change us.

Assistant Governor Visit

We were honored to welcome back our Assistant
Governor Nancy Weisel
during our last Club
meeting. Her visit brought both encouragement
and generosity - she graciously contributed
support to our Club’s Happy Bucks and shared valuable updates on upcoming district events.
Great to have our Assistant Governor join us
and witness the continued energy and service
at the heart of our work.

Justin Furtado - "More Than A Game"

We were inspired by our guest speaker, Justin
Furtado
, who shared the story behind his
two-year-old nonprofit, BTG Basketball. His
journey began at 16 years old, while helping
coach young baseball players, his own coach recognized his natural ability to connect
with and mentor youth.

Today, that same passion drives his work—
not just teaching basketball fundamentals,
but shaping the character and future of young
men and women through the game. His
nonprofit is grounded in the belief that sports
can be a powerful tool for building confidence,
community, and lifelong values. With intention
and heart, he’s creating a space where young
people grow both on and off the court.

PVSR proudly donated $2,000 to support
scholarships for youth
through Justin’s BTG
nonprofit. Members also gave an additional
$2,000 to help cover meals and travel for an
upcoming competition
in Southern California.
A powerful reminder that together, we can
uplift the next generation.

Serving Up Smiles at Mar Vista
Family Center Lunch

Monday marked our third opportunity to provide
lunch for the children attending summer camp at
the Mar Vista Family Center. This week’s delicious pasta meal was made possible thanks to the
generous support of Cantalini’s. PVSR volunteers
Lucy, Gwen, Steph and Bobbie served the meals
for 80 children and were rewarded with big grins,
saucy faces, and lots of happy tummies!

As a wonderful follow-up to this ongoing
partnership, all PVSR members are warmly
invited to visit the Mar Vista Family Center
this Friday at 1:00PM
to watch the children’s
end-of-summer camp performance.
Come celebrate their creativity! 🎭

Rotarians Around Town

✈️ A business trip + Nature
= the pause that refreshes ⛰️

Lake Washington & Mount Rainer
- Washington State

This past week, President, Martha, found herself
in “Rip City” — that’s Portland for the basketball
fans. The trip was a mix of business and the joy
of spending time with her sister, Rosa, whom
several of you have had the chance to meet.

It was a good reminder: two things can be
true at once.
Work and connection. Purpose
and pause. Service and self-care. They’re not mutually exclusive — in fact, they often make
each other better.
