Each week President Jim  will offer his thoughts to Tony Ciancimino who in turn will share them with his fellow Rotarians and friends of the Club.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

The second Wed. of the month found us listening to fascinating craft talks from representatives of our two corporate members. It is interesting to proudly note that since their induction, the Marina del Rey Hospital and the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce have perfect attendance and suburb program support.

ImageDavid Voss, back from his 174 countries in 6 days, trip to Europe went "ladies first" and introduced Christina Davis from the chamber. Christina described  her personal voyage in the words of John Lennon, "Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans." She charted her family, personal and professional path never wanting to lose her local roots and actually setting them deeper. Having just returned from visiting her in-laws  in Rochester N.Y. (wonder if she stopped in at Kodak) and their sheep farm, she would later in the meeting leave behind $20 to brag about not having to milk a cow. She was a self described city girl in the country. We're happy to both have her back in Los Angeles and in our Club!

Next up was the MDR Hospital's very own Tom Dixon. As the hospital's Patient Liaison he's constantly on the go and still took on additional duties for hospital team building activities that never existed before Tom's presence. He definitely is working at the right place for the son of a doctor and nurse. He's one of five brothers and inexplicably is still single. An athlete his whole life Tom is maintaining his sportsman status still playing
soccer. With he and Anne Algaze we have the beginnings of a Playa Venice Rotary soccer team. His degree was earned up the hill at LMU. Tom and his cohorts from the hospital have been very welcome and valuable additions to our Club!

You might understandably wonder why we're showing pictures of our speakers picking raffle tickets. OK, I confess, with my trusted photographers not present, I was asleep at the wheel (asleep, but not texting) so I grabbed my un-trusty phone, to knock out of few images of Christina and Tom. I even caught a bear siting.

Diane joining us for the last time before Venice High School starts again and brought a "special guest," Eric Kroskrity. He has founded and directs ShareChange to increase experiential learning in high school curricula that empowers students to become active community participants and responsible global citizens. We were very happy to have Eric with us.

ImageWhen it came time for brags and fines we had to find some company for Christina's money. Our California brown bear President tapped David's shoulder to tell about his recent European trip. It sounded like a fairy tale voyage with pictures and maybe a meeting program to follow. As an outstanding photographer it should be a special offering. David "volunteered" $50. On the heals of David, but with shorter distances, Tom Carson reported on his east coast swing. First stop was Connecticut to visit his 92 year old father-in-law, who is very spry and active. Then it was down to East Hampton for lobster, clams and home grown vegetables. Another great trip well worth the $46 (1/2 his father-in-laws age) that Tom donated to the Club.

Thanks to all present who made it a very special meeting!
