Each week President Jim  will offer his thoughts to Tony Ciancimino who in turn will share them with his fellow Rotarians and friends of the Club.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

Any meeting that starts out with a great inspirational moment, is headed towards being special. Jon stepped up to suggest that, "If you think you are too small to be effective, you've never been bitten by a mosquito!" Personally I have never seen the Rotarian impact better summed up. One person can make a difference in this world. As Rotarians we are dedicated to replicating that effort. Thanks Jon!

ImageWeekly featured speakers are always a treat. This week was a candy store. Gene Hernandez from Rotary in Chino came to talk to us about the annual Rotary Rose Parade Float and what it takes to make it happen every year. No Rotary International funds go to the costs of the float, all monies are raised independently. 2012 was a high water mark for the effort with the winning of the Princess Award (best floats 35 ft. and under.) Additionally KTLA gave great coverage to the PolioPlus effort. Check it out on You Tube if you missed the broadcast.

Kathrine posted the Club on the up coming 10/27 Paul Harris celebration. The Club has pre-purchased a table of 10.Tickets are $125. She will be distributing raffle ticket books ($10 each or a book of 12 for $100.) Check out the attached story for more details.

President Jim gave a shout out to all Rotarians who were not present. You missed the meeting but we missed you!

It was then time to catch up on accounting. President Jim called in several forensic accountants to figure out the correct monies due to past 50/50 winnings for Tore and Howard. They became winners by pulling the ace of spades in our weekly members only card drawing. When the (gold) dust settled Tore walked away with $320 and Howard with $280. Guys, my dance card for lunch is very open. Congratulations, if belatedly.

President Jim reported on the Peace Walk he and Gwen attended last Sat. They had a great time but were sad to noteImage that there was limited Rotarian participation. Next year will be different. Their number grew like Stallone running as Rocky. We thank the Vuchsas' for representing us.

Marine architects Ryan and Voss are hard at work designing this year's boat for the District Picnic which will take place on Sept. 9th. Tore and Tom Carson already have had a training session and have recruited Katie and are looking for one more rowing mate to be able to plug in fresh energy for the multiple heats. Judith Wilson is heading the effort to stock our popular desert table. We have two goals, the easiest is to "sell out" at the desert table. We have full faith that our Tore-nato rowers will again bring home the race trophy, acknowledging our entry, Bear Force One, as the best, again.

Katie advised that blankets will be laid out for any of the Club who wish to join she and Mike at the free classical concert in Burton Chace park on 8/23, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Judith Ciancimino is looking for Summer Social (8/25) RSVP's to assign parts for the Murder Mystery Party. It'll be a killer! Also, advise Gwen what you'll be bringing as your "pot luck" dish.

ImagePresident Jim took out his auction gavel as it was time for offering this week's version of "Bear Essentials" in support of PolioPlus. Bidding was lively but David Voss and his date Jessie, won the day with a $70. bid and the prize which was two car washes at the location of David's choice and a DVD of the movie Car Wash.

The meeting finally rolled around to the member's favorite way to become poorer, brags. The recent survey in The Hometown News recognized multiple categories of "The Best..." David's hand went back in his pocket ($60.) as he was named Best Attorney.  Tom Dixon of the MDR Hospital represented Chris Kishida, Pam Wolf and Tammie Bean, with the hospital being named Best Hospital. $10 each seemed a fair donation, but Mr. Generosity, Howard, stepped up to pay $40. for them out of his 50/50 winnings.

Thanks to Judith Ciancimino and the Vuchsas'for this weeks photos.
