Each week President Jim  will offer his thoughts to Tony Ciancimino who in turn will share them with his fellow Rotarians and friends of the Club.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

It was great to have a full house this week, it always raises the energy in the room. Joining our three visitors from this week's talk on Westchester Playa Village was favorite great grand mom Doris Bills and special guest of Chris Kishida, Agnes Huff.

ImageCarol Kitabayashi, Executive Director for the Westchester Playa Village (WPV) was joined by Tia Oten and their intern Nadia. Carol explained that the mission of the Village is to provides services to member senior that they can not complete on their own. This may range from grocery shopping to pick up and drop of tasks, to household chores. The Village needs both donors and volunteers. To even qualify to volunteer they must first conduct a simple background check, similar to what we did on the District level to be able to work with kids. Gwen has a supply of applications. Remember filling out an application is not a commitment, it merely qualifies you if you should choose to participate. There is a link to WPV on our website if you wish to learn more about their work.

Clarence joined us this week to give us an overview of what he has been doing lately that has occupied so much of his time. He has been serving on the Board of Millennium Momentum Foundation (MMF). This 10 year old 501c3 non-profit is dedicated to "increasing the number of students and young adults from various ethnic backgrounds in publicImage service through higher education financial aid, mentoring and leadership development training. They recently completed some intensive surveys and reported the finding and were invited to the White House to celebrate the hard work. While Clarence was able to say that he'd been able to meet the friendliest member of the first family, the first dog. That scored him high points with his daughter. It turns out that MMF has an upcoming opportunity where we can lend assistance. Toyota will bee awarding 100 free SUVs to non-profits. MMF has made it to the finals and Monday July 30th is the date you can vote for them online at https:apps.facebook.com/carsforgood/ You must have a Facebook accountin order to vote. Voting takes place from 7:00 am to 8:59 pm PT. Let's mark our calendars and help out this worthy cause.

As Peter Parker (Spiderman) was told, "with great power comes great responsibility." President Jim stepped up to advise Clarence that you can't go to the White House for free. Clarence threw has fate to Tia Oten to determine what fine he's have to pay. Former Rotarian Tia took it easy on him and said $10 would cover it. This led us to what other ImageRotarians have has MAJOR changes in their lives. Katie Katie married lady slowly got up to share the details of her recent wedding and honeymoon. Sounding like a scene out of Urban Cowboy she shared that she had a lovely traditional gown and wore cowboy boots. She and Mike left San Diego for a honeymoon in Mexico. Asked to "name her poison" Katie volunteered $50 each for she and Mike. The warmest best wished of the Club go out to our very special friends Katie and Mike. Maintaining the theme of like changing events Kathrine got up to say after much thought she has made the change from Morgan Stanley to Wells Fargo. With strains of The Jefferson's theme in the background (Movin on Up) Kathrine noted she now be based in Beverly Hills. She donated $50 to share the good news. The picture to the left is Katie with her parents at the recent Demotion Party.

It was great to have Judith Wilson back with us. She's recovering from a 4 day hospital stay. Welcome back!

Gwen reported that we have our first sponsor of the 10/18 Cultural Dinner in the person of David Herbst and the Hannon Foundation. It's a big advantage to have the detailed locked down early, but it's not to early to explore other sponsor issues. Contact Gen if you have questions.

Judith Ciancimino is working on the 8/25 Murder Mystery pot luck dinner details. She needs to get a feel from the membership on who will be participating.
