Each week President Jim (bear) will offer his thoughts to Tony Ciancimino who in turn will share them with his fellow Rotarians and friends of the Club.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

This week we were joined by our friend and fellow Rotarian from Santa Monica, Larry Mortoff. Rotarian at Heart Mark Williamson accompanied Kathrine. Our Airport Marina Counseling Service (AMCS) speakers were Executive Director ImageKathleen O'Leary Lefferman, Clinical Director Dr. Dee Dee Hoffman and Director Dan Cohen. They reviewed the Services activities and good works in the community. At the end of their talk President Jim prese
Imagented them with a $500 check in support of their work. In addition we plan on having a booth at the upcoming Jet to Jetty race.

After the AMCS
presentation President Jim outlined some new and upcomingevents. In coordination with his theme of Success Through Teamwork, he has asked a variety of members to take the lead on projects. Gwen reported that with the selection of Patty Sinclair and Randy Johnson co-presidents of Playa Vista as co-awardees of the Sunrise Community Service Award the cultural dinner date of 10/18 can be confirmed. Once again it will be held at the Center Pointe Club at Playa Vista. The theme will be Rio's Carnival. Please mark your calendars for this important fund raising event! As a reminder to the membership 8/25 between 7-8:00 AM we'll be setting up a Club Booth at the AMCS Jet to Jetty race. We hope to have a tasty Rainbow Acres treat to hand out.  Judith Ciancimino will be organizing the 8/25 Murder Mystery night at the Casa Vuchsas. She'll be channeling her inner Stephen King to come up with an interesting and fun evening. Tom Dixon is taking the lead on the Club's serving a meal at the Midnight Mission. He'll be looking to target a Sat. or Sun. in Sept. or Oct. More details to come. Traveling man Don Culton will be working with the newly formed Eastern Seaboard Club in Thailand to co-sponsor a project and create a sister club relationship.

Since Katie is still celebrating her recent marriage to Mike and is on her honeymoon, the Club voted unanimously to fine her $25,000. Just kidding Katie, but just in case, bring your checkbook when you return. Kathrine, on the other hand, did not avoid being spotlighted for her recent Cape Cod trip. $25 in the Club cash register. Thank you Kathrine.

President Bear, I mean, President Jim, unveiled his new weekly feature to raise funds for another $1,000 Polio Plus donation in 2012-2013. Weekly, he'll be auctioning off "blind" items to reach the goal. After reconsidering what to call the items to be auctioned off, he be referring to the as Bear Essentials, not Bare Essentials (whew!) The Godfather of Giving, Dan, won the first round with a very generous bid of $100. for a best selling book and gift card. Thank you Dan you led us off with a great start!
