Each week President Jim (bear) will offer his thoughts to Tony Ciancimino who in turn will share them with his fellow Rotarians and friends of the Club.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

With the send off Demotion Party, installation and Fourth of July Parade behind us, President Jim kicked off his Presidency by giving his vision for the coming year. His motto Success through Teamwork tells it all. He has correctly identified that for us to continue the upward success we have enjoyed, we'll have to do it together.

We happily welcomed good friends Mark Williamson, Doris Bills and Ensa Jannsen as guests this week.

President Jim then proceeded to ask each Director to give a brief update on new plans for 2012-2013. Gail will be in charge of fund raising and has identified expanded use of the Ralph's Rewards card program, an online marketplace and an event planned around dinners at Cantalini's. The fall cultural dinner will continue to be the main focus.

As Club Service Director Judith Wilson has appointed people to perform the many functions under her control. Since the Paul Harris celebrations is close to Halloween, this year's progressive dinner will have to be at another time of the year. Judith has tapped Christina to head that effort.

Gwen hopes to grow Community Service to include serving meals at the Midnight Mission, a seniors project, move involvement with Earth Angel and working with the Camp Pendleton Rotary Club on there efforts to create a Memorial Garden for Marine family members morning lost loved ones.

Vocational Director Howard wants to return to the roots of his avenue of service with more efforts to show youth the jobs we perform and hopes to work with the Marina Hospital in this area. We'll continue to participate in the District's Annual Arts and Speech Contest, club members have been identified to chair each discipline.

Dan is International Director and has brought in Tore to co-chair his international project such as work with Sarah Chapman's Build a Better Benin and sister city projects. The District international trip will be to Jamaica with projects undertaken there.

It was then time for a few words about Membership. This will be a challenging year, starting with 39 members we must continue to grow. Bring a Friend to Rotary dates have been set for 9/19 and 3/13, but beyond that we have to start bringing prospective members to events and social function. There is no greater selling tool for our Club than to meet the membership.

New Generations bride to be, Katie will detail her plans after she becomes Katie, Katie married lady.

Dan proudly announced that Rotarian Kip had been on radio station KFWB as a featured speaker. That turned into a $50 brag and to make the life of the Membership Director easier he advised that he was going to make his 90 year pld mom a member. That will be three generations of Kolodziejskis in the Club. Alert the District Newsletter Chair, there is a story there somewhere. Since bragging is infectious Gwen shared that daughter Courtney was acknowledged as being on the number one Marriott sales team. Ka ching, $25. These two brags proved that kids don't stop costing you money when they graduate from college.
