Each week President Jim will share his thoughts about that week's meeting with Tony Ciancimino who will pass them on to members and friends. This week we honored those with birthdays in April. Peter Smyth is shown accepting his gift from Judith Ciancimino, representing all with April birthdays.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

This week we were happy to welcome back special guest Nate Richards, visiting Rotarians Jim Evans from Orange County and Michael Cates from the Santa Monica Club. Their presence brightened the room!

Since we have a very full final quarter of the Rotary year, this week's meeting was dedicated to explaining what is upcoming and the details of new offerings. Please take a moment to review the events listed below and to add them to your calendars.

Two new and important events are the 6/2 "build a bear" program brought to us by energizer bunny Rachel SundayImage and the 6/15 Getty Villa (Malibu) visit suggested by Judith Wilson. These are two great opportunities to both get on our "kid" and our "art." Youth and class, both needed! We thank Rachel and Judith for broadening our horizons! (The picture looks like Rachel is saying, "I once caught a fish this big," but that's not the case.)

With a record number of new members in the Club it was decided that we needed to both celebrate the occasion and offer more Rotary information to our membership. On May 9th at 6:00 PM at the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce's offices we will be having a Member Orientation meeting. We have purposely not called it a "new" member orientation because it is open to any member of the Club who want to learn more about Rotary. Your ticket to attend is your RSVP to the Membership Director (hint, me.) You'll be our guest for food and adult beverages for a happy hour celebration and indoctrination.

ImageClub Secretary Charles Rosenberg highlighted a very important development in his life. We were proud to hear that his son got an academic scholarship to Cal State Berkeley. Quite an achievement! Charles invested $25 to share the good news.

Once again, no one pulled the ace of spades in the 50/50 drawing, so $1510. carries over to next week.

Thanks to Don Culton and Judith Ciancimino for taking pictures this week.
