Each week President Jim will offer his thoughts to Tony Ciancimino who in turn will share them with his fellow Rotarians and friends of the Club.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

President Jim sent out an email on Tues. about the passing of Gale LaBarre. I  was honored that Jim asked me to say a few words about her in this week's invocation, although I have to apologize to those present for getting a bit emotional. I guess Italians wear their heart too much on their sleeve. Since I can't remember exactly what I said let me simply offer the following as a written remembrance.

Dear Lord please welcome this warm spirit to your presence and allow her steps in Heaven to be burden free and lighter than here on earth. Another good Rotarian joins you to watch over us as we try and deliver Service Above Self. Please watch over Dianne Pollock and lift her sorrows and allow her to remember only the good things. Please do the same for us. Amen.

On another sad note we offer our sympathies to Tore Knos on the passing of his mother-in-law. Tore, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

We were blessed with several guests this week. Our shortest James Frawley's son Dane and the prettiest, his wife Racquel. Also with us was Venice High School principal Elsa Mendoza and visiting Westwood Rotarian Mark Rogo. A warm welcome was offered to all.

It's time for a "full court press" on the 10/18 Cultural Dinner! If you haven't RSVP'd to Gwen, please do so. Get either a $20 or more bottle of wine (or $20 to buy one) to Anne Algaze. We are still looking for raffle and silent auction items, contact Gwen or Christina Davis with whatever you may have. Our efforts between now and 10/18 will determine what will be able to raise for our Foundation's good works during the next year!

Katherine Russell reminded everyone that the Paul Harris celebration takes place on 10/22. Details on our website. Each member was given a book of raffle tickets to sell. She needs to get back your money ASAP.

There will be a District Community Alliance meeting this Sat. Advise Gwen if you'd like to join her.

ImageOur speaker this week was Erikk Aldridge Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Venice (BGCV.) Erikk was a member of the Playa Sunrise Rotary Club, the role that Armando Diaz now performs for Playa Venice Sunrise. He gave us an overview of the mission and activities of this 44 year old institution. We were happy to have Erikk with us again and are proud of our partnership with the Club.

President Jim reminded everyone that next Monday is the monthly Board meeting at the chamber offices.

No winner this week's in the 50/50 card drawing so the pot grows to $885. for next week. Mmmmm.
