Sharing Smiles, 6/6/12

Each week President Gail will whisper in Tony Ciancimino's ear how the Club is "Sharing Smiles" and living Service Above Self. Tony will then share it with the Club.
Dear Fellow Rotarians and friends,
Its's hard to believe the year is racing to an end. Only two more meetings and then we are "dark" the last week in June for the Demotion Party and the Fourth of July. Next week we'll have our pre-Flag Day salute followed by President Gail's "Look back in the rear view mirror." We're back on July 11th to celebrate the year of the bear and the beginning of Jim Vuchsas' Presidency.
As we head in to Jim's year, we turned to the Today Show format with Christina Davis introducing President Gail as Ann Curry who in turn interviewed President Elect Jim about his background and vision for the coming year. Jim is dedicated in maintaining the momentum that Gail has generated and to building on it. Jim was highly complimentary of Gail's efforts. He feels the Club is positioned for greatness. Few would disagree!
The author followed this duo with a follicle challenged version of Matt Lauer "reporting" on Membership and the future. The incoming Rotary International (RI) President has identified that membership is our number one challenge. We have enjoyed success in the past year, due the membership's efforts and we can't afford to let up. Goals and plans were announced in anticipation of a very active year in Membership.
In preparation of a flurry of year end events, we have placed information on on the web site Homepage (Playasunrise.org,) under Club Merchandize (left hand side) that details the variety of logo shirts that can be purchased from Control Printing. Contact Alex Rosales if you are interested in making a purchase to sport the Club look.
ChamberFest takes place on Thurs. June 7th starting at 4:00 PM at Playa Vista's Center Pointe Club. This LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce event allows us to showcase our Club and increase visibility in the community.
June 23rd, from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM is our first annual Vintage Treasure sale. All varieties of previously owned items will be available for sale. Couple them with not previously owned baked goods and you have a great combination of value and fun. In preparation, we will stage at Gail's house on Wed. 6/20 and Thurs. 6/21 starting at 5:00 PM. Fri. 6/22 we will be transferring all items to the sale site of 7202 Rindge Ave. in Playa del Rey. Sale day activities will be concluded with a BBQ courtesy of The Presidents; Gail and Jim. Please RSVP if you plan to attend the BBQ.
Lucy reported that 9 members attended her recent Angel City Chorale Concerts. In thanks for their attendance, as promised, Lucy donated $105 towards Interacters' tee shirts. Very Generous, thank you Lucy!
The late arriving duo of Lisa and Gail fined them selves not for being tardy but for physical maladies. Lisa, while trying out for the Olympic Gymnastics team tripped over Tom Ryan and took a spill. It's true, she's head over heals for Tom. That's $25. Sally trying to be a contortionist (we didn't have the nerve to ask why) did a pretzel and threw out her back. That's $20. Frugal but more limber Don also recently face planted while running and calculated it was worth $5.00
