Each week President Gail will whisper in Tony Ciancimino's ear how the Club is "Sharing Smiles" and living Service Above Self. Tony will then share it with the Club.

Dear Rotarians and friends,

This week we celebrated Flag Day, one day early. Members shared readings and thoughts about freedom, our country and Imageour flag. We had great participation and energy, we thank everyone for their efforts and involvement.

We love to entertain guests, but when they are old friends it is even more special. Steve and Wendy Donell joined us to bring us up to date on happenings in their lives and recent involvements. They are helping to launch the new K-5th grade school at Playa Vista. We hope to learn more about their work and to be able to find ways to support their efforts. One affordable fund raiser they are promoting is the sale of bird houses for customization. They are available for $100 each and can be painted (within a set color scheme) and will be placed throughout Playa Vista. The Club committed to  a purchase and committed the author to decorate it. So much for democracy. Steve can be reached at Steve.Donell@Jalmar.com for those seeking more information about the school or those wanting to support it.

Another welcome guest was District Governor Elect Jim Dyer from the Santa Monica club. For those who did not read last week's District Friday email, Jim shared the sad news of the passing of Rick Searey from the Bellflower club. Rick will be missed.

Rounding out the guest list was Tore's son Tore who spoke to us about the film he has produced. The movie, Abel's Field will debut in the winter of 2013. Tore 2 told of what it has taken to bring this effort to fruition. The creative process is just that and it has taken five years to bring the project home. Tore shared a clip and it looks like a great movie. We hope to plan a Club outing to attend the premier.

Next week's meeting will be President Gail "taking a look in the rear view mirror" to review how far we have come in the last twelve months.

The membership was reminded that 6/20 and 6/21 will be staging days at Gail's house starting at 5:30 PM. Friday will be moving day from Gail's to Casa de Courtney in Playa del Rey. We'll start the Vintage Treasure Sale Sat. 6/23 at 8:00 AM, but those who have a history with yard sales counsel to be ready well in advance of 8:00 AM. Accordingly we'll shoot for 6:30 AM just in case. Please RSVP to Sally or Gail if you are attending any or all of these sessions for food planning purposes. The sale will be followed by a Gail/Jim hosted BBQ, let them know if you plan on attending.

A week ago we attended the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce's annual ChamberFest. We were able to sign up several people as new "friends of the Club"and we welcome them to our weekly Bulletin. We hope they find it of interest. I am available at any time for questions about our Club and membership.

If you are planning to attend (or not) the 6/29 Demotion Party, please RSVP to Gwen, we need an accurate head count.

Remember were are "dark" 6/27 and 7/4. For those who have a Rotary "Jones," come and ride on our 4th of July ParadeImage float.  Be at Westchester Park at 10:00 AM on the 4th and we'll arrange your ride.

See you on 6/23 or hopefully sooner.

Be well.

Yours in Rotary service,

Tony
