Each week President Gail will whisper in Tony Ciancimino's ear how the Club is "Sharing Smiles" and living Service Above Self. Tony will then share it with the Club.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

Second only to installing new members are the meetings where we have "Craft Talks." They allow us to get to know our fellows Rotarians better and have fun in the process. This week Clarence Griffin and Jon Larimault raised the bar. Clarence offered an insightful and funny look at his life to date. Jon stepped up to the podium and rhymed his way through his talk with poetic flair and gusto. Both great presentations!

We were delighted to have Insa Janssen, ambassadorial scholar back with us this week. She joined Santa Monica Rotarian Larry Mortoff and Tore's guest Samuel Davis to help fill out the room. Super energy!

Katie updated the Club on the lunch hosted by the Animo Venice Interact Club. They jammed a lot into a quick meal period, a video, year end awards and congratulations. President Elect Jim surprised their thirteen members giving them their new Club banner as Katie distributed Interact pins to the attendees. Their smiles lit up the room. The Rotarians present were very impressed with the group. Chris Mudkins who addressed us about Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) a few weeks ago, is transferring to New Roads next year and hopes to establish another Interact Club there that will work with Animo and ourselves. The future looks as bright as the Interacter's smiles.

Invitations to the 6/29 Demotion Party will be mailed this week. It is important to RSVP to Armando as an accurate numbers count is very important. Members costs are part of our dues, it costs $75 for significant others to attend.

Gwen will circulate a LAX Coastal Area ChamberFest sign up sheet for the 6/7 event. We'll set up and be ready to kick off our wine ring toss game at 4:00 PM with the event closing down at 8:00 PM. As in the past, the event will be staged at the Playa Vista Center Pointe Club.

ImageWe participated in last week's renewal of the Venice Chamber's Business Expo. They enjoyed a good turn out and we made some valuable contacts as we spread the word about Playa Venice Sunrise.

President Gail called for nominations for our most prestigious award, Rotarian of the Year. It will be awarded at the Demotion Party. Please give your thoughts to Gail no later than the end of next week's meeting. The candidate must be a "member in good standing," i.e. current with their financial obligations, which all should be by the kick off of the "year of the bear," July 1.

Speaking of bears, President Elect Jim advised the membership that we will have an ambassadorial scholar next year who will be attending UCLA (more bears!) This is a high water mark for us, our first. That's stating the new year on the right note.

In Sally's absence, Kathrine updated us on the progress on the 6/23 Vintage Treasure Sale (if we keep changing the name each week it will seem like we have more events.) Thurs. 6/21 will be a wine and cheese sorting at Gail's, Fri. 6/22 transportation to Playa del Rey estate of Brendan and Courtney O'Donoghue for Saturday's sale, capped by a BBQ. Your trash is someone else's treasure!

We ended the meeting with Tore pulling the ace of spades and winning the 50/50 pot. Lisa will advise him if his income tax status has changed.

Thanks to Alex Rosales and Vanessa Sick for this week's photo.
