Guests this week included:

  • Gwen's mom Doris
  • Sarah a graduate of St. Bernard's High and a scholarship winner. Her mom Sonya accompanied her
  • Eden from Airport Marina Counseling
  • Cynthia, the Principal of St. Bernard's High
  • Warren, a visiting Rotarian
  • Ass't Gov - Sam Bingham. From Englewood club

 

What Happened this Week:

Reminder on 9/4 the past District Gov will be here and 9/11 is bring a friend to Rotary day.

 

Peter also reminded us the Whale Watching trip will be 9/29 at 9am. Only $125 and includes breakfast, lunch and booze. Boat will hold 20. Sign up with Peter. Howard will be providing the food and Peter will supply the booze.

 

Officer Gropp was in the house to tell us all about the Open House Pancake breakfast on 9/7. I will be posting more info later this week.

 

In this week’s Hometown News we have a picture and ad. We are the Best Non-profit for a 2nd year in a row.

 

Clarence informed us that as of 9/3 he will be joining the School of Education as Director of Strategic Partnerships. Congrats!! 

 

Eden from Airport Marina Counseling came by to remind us that the Jet to Jetty is this Saturday. We are a sponsor of the event and she accepted the $500 sponsorship check.

Cynthia the principal of St. Bernard's High came by to tell us that they just completed a million dollar renovation project on the school. There will also be a fundraiser at a LA Sparks game on 9/9. More details soon.

Sarah from St Bernard’s High is this year’s recipient of the leadership scholarship for $1,000 Congrats and good luck at Berkley.


Announcement:

In the next few weeks I will be making some revisions to the newsletter. Your suggestions are welcome.

Also, as a group we love to take pictures for the newsletter and website. Our phones are great, but this being the club's visual history I will be donating a digital camera to use each week (will leave it with the club's supplies). This way we can be assured the best possible images each and every week.

Spoke about "Six Great Men - The Founders of the United States of America”.

Franklin, Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton.

Was very interesting and learned some things not previously known. Hamilton was a teenager when he signed the declaration of Independence.


Happy Bucks for this week:

  • Dan - Vacation with family for three weeks and office remains in one piece - $100
  • Gwen - The success of the exchange program. Candy really came out of her shell and she got to see this in person - $10
  • Dave Voss - Family trip, 2500 miles to national parks. Red eye on Wednesday night to east coast for boat race,  and thank you for best of in Hometown News. $100

No 50/50 raffle winner this week, so the 
pot carries over to next week.
