Hello All,

This is my first week doing the newsletter. Please let me know if you have any comments, suggestions, etc.

As always week we'll present a review of that week's meeting and upcoming Playa Venice events. In addition, at the end of each newsletter I will be including a Note from the Universe. These are great inspirational messages that remind us every day that we can live the life we want and make this world the best possible.

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

We had several guests with us this week. Lorne Kay and his guest Judy were visiting from Vancouver. Lorne and Tom exchanged flags.

Constance invited Paul Wynman to join us and Nate invited Alvaro as well. Haley also joined us for her last time before heading off to school. Officer Madison also made his first appearance at our meeting and received his club pin. Image

The announcement for this year's cultural dinner was made and the honoree will be Mike Bonin our LA City Councilman. The theme for this year will be South Pacific Islands. The dinner will be held on October 10th.

The first Midnight Mission for the year will be help in October 13th. More details coming soon.

For those of you interested in attending the Paul Harris dinner, please let Tom Ryan know ASAP. The dinner is sold out and we only have one table. A drawing will be to determine who gets the seats at the dinner. Sorry we can no accommodate more, we could only get the one table this year.

This week's meeting was highlighted by craft talks from Joe Chehade and Jory Rosen. Joe told us all about his heritage, living in Lebanon and growing up with a French culture. He opened his business here in 2008 and believes that we should all "do to others what you want others to do to you". Jory (hmm, talking about myself again here), well I spoke about my past, the projects I have worked on and was thrilled to be able to provide a laugh. By the way, I will have the Sit and Go available soon. If you were you not there last week and do not know what I am talking about, well you will have to see for yourself someday.

Both talks were fun and as always we came away knowing more about our new members. Great job Joe and Jory!

When it came time to ask if anyone had "happy bucks" to donate we had several takers: Tony donated $20 for me taking over the Newsletter and the good talks. Rachael donated $5 for each person who watched Haley's video. 6 people did, so that was $30. Gwen gave $10 for Haley's video and $10 to acknowledge the great service at Playa Pharmacy owned by Joe Chehade. Peter gave $10 ($5 for being excited to be headed to Bangkok and $5 for missing next week's meeting). Tom Ryan gave a Downer Dollar of $20 for losing his birthday cube.

No 50/50 raffle winner this week, so over $400 carries over to next week.
