President Armando called ten minutes before the meeting with the 405 traffic report which was worse than usual and he was stuck in it.  I rang the bell at 7:30 and the meeting started on time.  Fifteen of our twenty two members were able to attend the first meeting of the month but our ranks were bolstered with five guests.
Diane Pollock represented Gale LaBarre as Gale continues to get better every day.  Alex invited two guests, Melissa McGinness and Annie Zahan from Venice 4 Venice, a community fundraising group raising money for victims of the Gulf oil spill in Venice, Louisiana.  You can get more information at:  www.veniceforvenice.com.  Lisa had a guest. Lisa Fermini from the Friends of Ballona Wetlands who invited us all to their big party on the Hornblower's Endless Dreams yacht on October 29,2010.  For more information and tickets go to:  www.moonlightonthemarsh.com.  Judith Ciancimino was a guest of the Foundation and is always a welcome addition.
Many thanks and appreciation were given to Jim and Gwen for hosting the summer social where a good time was had by all.  It was great fellowship and the potluck made me think that instead of a wine tasting, with the spread our members put out, we should have a food tasting.  I'd pay for that meal anytime.
Adding to the Club treasury Don bragged $35 for his vacation in Spain and Mexico and provided the raffle prizes that we picked up on his travels.  Alex bragged $25 on his new iPad.  Lisa and Armando each chipped in $2 for being late.
The two Toms gave their craft talks.  Tom C. started it off telling us about life as an architect and how it all started for him.  He spilled the beans on how the State spends your money while he was working on the Governor's Mansion (no wonder we're broke).  During the Q and A all of the intimate details of his personal life were drawn out from family members, growing up in Oklahoma as the son of a fifty year Rotarian right on through to wedding and honeymoon.  I know that is the juicy stuff you want to read here but if I put it all down you might think you can miss a meeting and just come here for the good stuff.  The really good stuff always happens at the meeting.
Tom R. was next and with the life he's lead there's not much fit to print.  Just let it be said he's got kids, grandkids and great grandkids, makes a living in construction (he says he can build anything), doesn't go to the gym because Rotary is his cardio workout and has had a pretty good time getting from cradle to here.  In an effort to get me to stop talking I was asked to go to my truck and bring in my dog and Buckley the 95 pound golden doodle pretty much brought the meeting to an end.
Join in the fun and come to this week's meeting when our speaker will be our honorary member and a founder of the Marina del Rey Historical Society, Greg Wenger, and hear some little known facts about the marina.
