Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary and the Boys & Girls Club have launched a partnership that will provide access for 1000 kids throughout Los Angeles County to experience the already popular, BGC’s Sailing & Water Recreation Summer program. Funds raised on June 8th will go in part to The Boys & Girls Clubs to help maintain this program through the entire summer of 2023. A portion of the funds will also go to Playa Sunrise Rotary Club Foundation, Inc. to support the Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary Club and its youth service programs. Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary and Playa Sunrise Rotary Club Foundation, Inc are committed to supporting the youth in our community with programs designed to empower their lives both literally and emotionally to enhance their futures.

We bring youth from all of our clubhouses to Marina del Rey where they learn to sail, kayak, and paddle board.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM 

The Sailing Program uses disguised learning through sailing. While members have fun sailing, they also learn about marine and environmental sciences, physics, and technology. Our program is based on the U.S. Sailing’s STEM Education Series, which uses sailing as a method to employ inquiry-based learning through hands-on integrated learning opportunities. By using a natural learning environment, additional challenges are often presented that require youth to work together to anticipate, problem-solve, and navigate both literally and metaphorically.
