What a week of celebration and
accomplishment for PVSR

It is a moment to pause, reflect, and
appreciate all that this club has achieved
throughout the year. These successes did
not happen by chance — they are the result
of the dedication, generosity, and service
of every member. No contribution is too small,
and every effort has helped strengthen the
impact we continue to make in our community.

Bravo, PVSR!

Rotarian of the Month of May

It’s always an exciting time when we gather
to recognize one of our own as Rotarian of the
Month. Don’t miss the opportunity to join us as
we celebrate and cheer on the outstanding
individual selected to receive this special honor!

It's always extremely interesting and a joy to be
able to learn more about our members, and this
past week was no different as we heard Janet
Landon tell us more about her journey to PVSR.

During her presentation, Janet shared how a
lifelong passion for theater and community
shaped her path from performing in childhood
productions in Cleveland to becoming an
educator and school founder in Los Angeles.

Janet described how her career evolved from
acting to teaching, leading her to build an
award-winning drama program at Orville
Wright Middle School and later help found Westchester Secondary Charter School, where
arts, mentorship, and community partnerships
played a central role.

A recurring theme throughout her presentation
was the power of theater to transform lives.
For Janet, theater has always been more than
performance—it is a place where people find
acceptance, empathy, and purpose. She often
shared this belief with her students, telling
them, “If you ever find yourself alone, go to
a theater. They will find a place for you.”

Now retired from full-time teaching, Janet
continues directing and playwriting while
remaining active with family, friends, and
PVSR, which she credits as another
meaningful source of community,
friendship, and service.

2026 District Assembly

Rotary and Rotaract leaders from across the
District gathered at Otis College of Art & Design
for the District Assembly to prepare for the year
ahead. The day included a general session and
training courses covering the Avenues of Service,
Club Officer roles, ClubRunner, and other
important topics.

District Governor-Elect Brady Connell
challenged attendees to identify unmet needs
in their communities and bring forward ideas
for change. He reminded us that one person’s
vision can create extraordinary impact, citing
Rotary’s fight to eradicate polio as a powerful
example. He also highlighted the opportunities
available through District and Global Grants
to turn ideas into action.

His second message focused on the power
of connection. Through collaboration and
partnership, Rotary can achieve far more
than any individual working alone.

Participants connected, learned, and shared
ideas while gaining valuable tools to strengthen
their clubs. The day concluded with the District
Grant MOU Certification session, required for
clubs seeking District and Global Grants.

A special thank you to DJ Addy for providing
the lively music that set the perfect tone for
the day!

Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary was represented
by 13 members: Gwen, Gail, Susan, Dean,
Rich, Jan, Iris, Dave, Kim, Martha, Debbie,
Janet, Brady, Stephanie, Lucy (Presenter),
and Impactful Artistry  Rotaract representative
Dani Torgusen. Members attended sessions
supporting their areas of service, including
Community Service, Foundation, Membership,
the Chile Humanitarian Trip, and
MOU Certification.

Congratulations to District Governor-Elect
Brady and his team for a well-run and
informative District Assembly!
