Thank you to everyone who made President Hilton’s Demotion Party such a success! We enjoyed a beautiful evening under the stars, poked a little fun at El Jefe and installed a terrific new Board (thank you Dean Reuter for doing the honors)! We also awarded DGN Brady Connell, Rotarian of the Year - So well deserved!!
And thank you to our district friends who came out to support us…we appreciated your kind words of encouragement.
Like the world around us, there are disagreements and misunderstandings that happen in every sector of life - and there are the bonds of service that endure, wherever or however you may serve. May our fellowship continue to promote goodwill and better friendships and may we be a positive influence in our community and around the world.
Here’s to a wonderful new year. I am truly grateful to help lead our club forward!
July’s board meeting has changed from Tuesday July 9 to Thursday July 11 6:00. Same location: Visitation School at 8740 Emerson Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045. As a result, our next Happy Hour will not be this Thursday, it will be the first Thursday in August - Aug 1! Location TBA.

It’s that time of year again - The Hometown news "Best of" Edition! Please VOTE for OUR CLUB and for your other favorite PV Sunrise Member Businesses!!
At the first meeting of the new Rotary year, members and guests were treated to a very special interactive experience with the talented students from the Jacaranda School for Orphans in Malawi.
Thanks to the club’s gift of Starlink, which provides high-speed internet to the world, we were able to explore their amazing school, and enjoy the artistic talents of the students. Luc Deschamps, and founder Marie da Silva, who have both visited our club in the past, were on hand to guide this inspiring experience. But it was the kids – a piano player, a cellist, multiple singers, and many artists – who moved us with their creative expressions. Thank you to club board member Richard Shelton and JoAnn Staton from Otis College for continuing to engage us with the activities of this extraordinary school. The Starlink system will provide students the opportunity for high-speed streaming, video calls, online gaming, virtual learning, artistic exchanges, and more. This coming year, we plan to help them reach even higher levels of expression by seeking a Rotary Global Grant! Take a moment to explore their website (be sure to watch the videos!) so you’ll be familiar with their programs as we continue our partnership with this inspiring school!
Also at last week’s meeting we heard from new board member Iris Monrreal, who will serve as club Secretary. We heard about Iris’s family, her family roots in Mexico (her dad was an orchestra leader - who knew?!), and we discovered Iris is a true local, having attended Stoner Elementary and Mark Twain Middle School (a bell ringer, no less!!!!). Thank you for serving, Iris!
Saluting our Stars and Stripes! PVSR and the 4th of July Parade!
Once again, Playa Venice Sunrise volunteers came out in force to assure the success of this honored community event. A vision brought to life by our own Gwen Vuchsas and her family 24 years ago (!), the entire Westchester/Playa community looks forward to this wonderful home-town parade. It could not thrive without our members and friends – thank you to all of the following who committed their 4th to the community: Diane Barretti, Rob Bird, John Buckley, Bobbie Casalino-Lewis, Joe Chehade, Brady Connell, Maria Davis, Joe Davis, Daryn Fillis, Ilene Florin, Richard Florin, Gail Goldstein, Ramona Ivy, Martha Jeffers, Matthew Lawrence, Mary-Catherine Micka, Jan Osgood, Becky Reilly-Francis, Kathrine Russell, Garrett Smith, Kelli Trombley, Marsha Weitecha and Jason Wong.
A special thank you to the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring the parade, to parade Co-Chair (and past PVS president) Jerry Jen, to past PVS Cultural Dinner honoree Stephanie Younger for providing water on the route, to the LAFD for inviting our members/families ride on the firetruck, to the Westchester Elks for hosting the after BBQ (yum!),
and to talented members Lisa Schwab and Stephanie Rondeau for anchoring Stage Three – great job!!!
We are all honored to be a part of this annual tradition!
