Dear Rotarians,
We had another fabulous meeting this week with Captain Joe Stephen from the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department, Marina Station, along with Sheriffs Brent Carlson and Detective Ray Bercini. Captain Stephen and Officer Carlson gave us a great overview of their duties in Marina del Rey and Detective Bercini who is part of the Human Trafficking Bureau in Los Angeles spoke on the how serious this problem has become in LA, not to mention our country.
Congratulations to our Club Service Director/Administrative Jeff Kim for being named our Rotarian of the Month for September. Jeff does an amazing job on the raffle, invocation and flag salute assignment duties each week not to mention he is the liaison with Whiskey Red's for our weekly meetings. And when the restaurant loaned out the entire facility for a film shoot, Jeff found a solution for our meeting without skipping a beat. We are fortunate to have Jeff Kim on our team!
And speaking of great club members, special thanks to Jim Vuchsas, Sharon Martinez, Marina del Rey Hospital and Honorary Member and Los Angeles Firefighter Roger Rubio for teaming together to deliver much needed medical supplies to earthquake victims in Mexico City. Jim coordinated with Sharon and the hospital, PRN ambulance and Roger to secure the supplies. American Airlines allowed Roger to take 10 duffle bags of supplies at no charge to Mexico.
Carol Kitabayashi of Westside Pacific Village spoke to our club recently as to how we can assist some of our senior population with travel to appointments and other needs. WPV is a wonderful organization and I am pleased that we were able to donate $1400 to purchase a new laptop and projector for them and even more pleased, that Carol already picked up 4 volunteers from her visit to our club. Thank you Rotarians!!
