President's Newsletter #30 2019-2020
Dear Playa Venice Rotarians & Friends,

This past week was only the second week since July 1 that we didn’t have an official club event... I hope you enjoyed your week off!

TOMORROW, Playa Venice sweat jackets are for sale. They have a a Playa Venice insignia on the front. Bring $30!

We also have a speaker from the Ballona Renaissance organization who is going to tell us all about the revitalization efforts with Ballona Creek, which is the major Los Angeles watershed right here in our own backyard. Come find out why Ballona Creek has been selected for The Interceptor – the highest tech trash remover that exists. Important stuff for the health of our bay and our beaches!

Happy hour is THIS Thursday at Yard House in the Marina. ‘Nuf said! 5:30-8. Bring friends and special guests who may be interested in Rotary!

LAST CHANCE for any high-schooler talented in art, dance, music, vocals, or speech – apply by Thursday and they can still compete this Saturday. They could win $1,000 from the district Pageant of the Arts competition. Apply at www.playavenice.org. We especially need speakers and dancers!

Reminder to contact Stephanie Davis at westchesterhometown@yahoo.com if you want to place an ad in the special Playa Venice Rotary edition of the Hometown News. Due date is Feb 24. The more ads we buy, the more editorial space we get!

If you have auction items (especially gift certificates $25 and up) to donate for our BINGOFEST fundraiser on March 7, let Tracey Thompson Busa know. Be sure to put it on your calendar – it’s a great night!

On Feb 19 there is a district Salute to Military Service luncheon honoring Colonel Kevin Clark, Commanding Officer 1stRegiment, Camp Pendleton. Cost is $40 until Feb 12 - register at www.rotary5280.org. We are being asked to collect items for military families, especially baby items – you can bring them to our club meeting on Feb 12 or Feb 19.

Our Habitat for Humanity volunteer day (to be shared with Beverly Hills Rotary) is just two weeks from Sat on Feb 22. We have slots for 10 volunteers and 5 alternates – sign up now at www.playavenice.org by Feb 12 5:00. If we have more than enough sign-ups, we’ll do a lottery and confirm with everyone on Feb 13. We already have 8 sign-ups.

Congratulations to Peter Smyth for winning the biggest raffle pot the club has had in a long time – over $3,000! Half goes to the club, so thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets over the last several months. Back to 52 cards tomorrow...
