Dear Playa Venice Rotarians & Friends,
We had a fantastic Valentine’s meeting last week at the Proud Bird – thank you Monica Lyons for an outstanding craft talk – we loved hearing about your fascinating life path and your two amazing businesses!
Tomorrow 2/19 is everyone’s last chance to bring family item donations for Camp Pendleton families. Jerry Jen and I will collect diapers, gift cards, etc. and bring them to the
Salute to Military Service luncheon which is tomorrow (back at the Proud Bird!).If you want to join us at the luncheon last minute ($45), try registering at
www.rotary5280.org, or just come!
Also tomorrow we have two special visitors. First is our guest speaker Agnes Lewis, who will speak on the topic of “Feeding 9 billion.” We will also be visited by the firefighters of Firestation #63, who will accept the proceeds from the annual Venice pancake breakfast we hold for them. They’ll tell us about their big plans for the money. Thank you Hilton Brown for being our firefighter-whisperer!
Plus tomorrow – February birthdays!
Jerry Jen, Juliet Oman, Gwen Vuchsas, Hilton Brown and I all spent some time with Ramona Ivy for her Rotary Information. She works with member Sharon Cooper at Edward Jones. We love Ramona – she has expressed her desire to join the club, so if you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her, be sure to say Hi to her tomorrow!
Just five days left to contact Stephanie Davis at
westchesterhometown@yahoo.comif you want to
place an ad in the special
Playa Venice Rotary edition of theHometown News. Due date is Feb 24. It’s a great chance to let the community know you’re a PVS Rotarian!
Tracey Thompson Busa is still taking auction items for our

Our Habitat for Humanity volunteer day (along with Beverly Hills Rotary) is this Sat 2/22. The 10 volunteers are Jamie Altshule, Bobbie Casalino-Lewis, Bonnie Cullinan, Ramona Ivy, Dale Lewis, Nora MacLellan, Paola Melis, Melissa Moore, Patrick Morehead and Jerry Jen. If you would like to be added to the alternate list (there are only a few on it), let me know right away!
Last minute volunteer opportunity! Next week we'll need volunteers at various times throughout the week for Protectors Week. Our club has committed to supporting the LAX Chamber's fantastic expansion of this annual salute to local first responders. Member Howard Pollack/Rainbow Acres has graciously offered to feed breakfast to 50 officers at the LAPD Pacific Division on Thurs Feb 27 from 6:00am to 8:30am. We need 4-6 volunteers to help out. If you can't do it then, you can also volunteer for Monday lunchtime at the Chamber, and/or Wednesday lunch at the LA County Sheriff's Department. We'll take paper sign-ups tomorrow since this hasn't made it to the website yet.
Our next social event is the
LMU basketball night on Feb 27 with Westchester Rotary and the LAX Chamber. There's a reception before the game – it will be a fun night! Cost $10. Register at
www.playavenice.org.
