Dear Playa Venice Rotarians & Friends,
Tomorrow will be our fourth Zoom meeting... I miss you all! I even miss the food at Whiskey Red’s!
Here’s the meeting link (it’s the same recurring link):
There will be a new waiting room feature – as host I will let you in. Make sure your name is on your account instead of just your phone number so I know who you are! Lots of Zoom-bombing going on! We’ll gather and socialize from 7:30-8:00am, then start at 8:00. We have two terrific guests...
First,
Carol Kitabayashi, the Executive Director of Westside Pacific Villages. She’ll let us know exactly how we can be of assistance: we can inform seniors about the services WPV provides, we can gather donations for senior care packages, and we can help with deliveries.

Second, Yvette Esmeralda, a positive, encouraging US Army vet, contracted Corona virus, and beat it. She is eager to share her journey with us. She’s happy to take questions about her fight, and also about her treatment, which included Hydroxychloroquine.
Some of the activities our members are involved in during this crazy time:
John Sharpe organized a NOISE Therapy session on his block...his neighbors all went out on their front walks to let it all hang out: whistles, drums, airhorns, pots & pans. He is also encouraging his neighbors to join the “Chalk Your Walk” movement, as well as organizing a #chalkyourwalkwestchester contest though WAM and the Hometown News.
John is also putting on Friday Night Live concerts every Friday at 6:00 via the @wamblockparty Instagram feed to support musicians while their normal venues are closed. Access the @wamblockparty account, then tap on the WAM logo on the top left of the page. Donations go directly to the musicians’ Venmo/Paypal accounts - accepted with gratitude! Info on upcoming performances on the @wamblockparty Insta and FB feeds.
Everyone should know that Richard Florin’s oldest son Todd is a Pediatric Emergency Care physician and Assoc. Professor at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. Todd is venturing to do research in regards to COVID-19 in children. Go Todd!
With help from Nora MacLellan,
Declan Geraghty is using his Geraphix Printing 3D printer to print
face shields for health care workers. He has limited capacity, but every one counts. If you have a lead on plastic sheeting, please contact
declan@geraphix.com or
dougnora@aol.com.
Howard Pollack, Joe Chehade, and Lisa Schwab (among others) – thank you for serving the community well with your businesses during this crazy time. Thank you all!
This week our club was instrumental in connecting local health-care front-liners with essential equipment – come to the meeting tomorrow and find out how!
Speaking of healthcare workers, the club board has decided to allocate some of our funds from cancelled events and put it toward supporting workers at Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey hospital. We’ll have details tomorrow about what we’re doing and how you can participate.
Lastly, next week’s meeting is Bring a Friend to Rotary. It’s a great opportunity for friends, co-workers and neighbors to check us out... from a distance! The plan is to be visited by our 11thdistrict Councilmember Mike Bonin. If for some reason he is unable to attend due to the pandemic activities, we will be joined by one of his awesome Field Deputies, which could be our own Matt Tecle. We'll hear about all the activities the Councilmember is involved in – get your questions ready!
Hang in there everybody, things will be back to normal soon. Then we can go back to stressing about all the regular stuff!
In Rotary service,
Brady
