News from the President
#7 2017

Dear Rotarians,

We had a terrific meeting yesterday with lots of activities.  Birthday Fairy Robin Orrego was on hand to celebrate the September birthdays of members Jerry Jen (9/9) and Greta Rose (9/29), new member Neal Mendelsohn earned and received his badge and audiologist Dr. Robin Mock-Orrego gave an interesting and delightful craft talk about her passions in life, hearing and dance!

Newly married (Saturday, 9/16 wedding in Tucson, AZ) Rotarian Stephanie Davis received a wedding gift from the club to help out with the honeymoon fund which will begin in 2 weeks.

It is interesting to note how many world travelers are in the club.  In the last month, Gail & Rob took a River Cruise in Europe, Jim & Gwen vacationed in Costa Rica, Tore just spent 2 weeks in Sweden, Liz Hall just returned from a 3-week African Safari, Kayla Friedman-Barb is currently in Europe on a 2-week vacation with her mom, Lindsay Thomas in Portugal for a Bachorlette party, Kathrine Russell visiting Australia and New Zealand and Rob DeCou and his family walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain!  And to top it off, Glenn & Kristen Hemanes, Jerry Jen and his wife as well as Michael Warren and his wife will be leaving for Costa Rica on October 7 for a week at the beautiful "Beach House" in Manuel Antonio that they purchased at our Cultural Dinner auction last year.  Having just been there in August, they are in for a BIG treat in paradise.

Speaking of the Cultural Dinner, it is fast approaching. Invitations are out to an Argentinian Evening It Takes You to Tango honoring community member and Honorary Mayor Garrett Smith,  The event is scheduled for October 18, 2017, 6:00pm at the Playa Vista CenterPointe Club.  Special thank you to our major event sponsors The Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation, Cedars Sinai-Marina Dey Rey Hospital and Los Angeles World Airports.  This is the signature event of the club that raises the majority of the funds for the charitable programs of the Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary Foundation.

So much good stuff going on in the club right now and so many giving people.  Just sent $12,500 to a Rotary District in Houston for Hurricane Harvey Relief (special thanks to member Howard Pollack), $1100 to Disaster Aid and currently collecting medical supplies for Mexico earthquake victims (thank you Jim Vuchsas for heading this up).

Locally, we are going down this weekend to the Midnight Mission to serve the homeless and take supplies and then dinner afterwards for some wonderful fellowship!

The members of this club should be proud and are the heart of soul of "Playa Venice Rocks!!"

Yours in Fun, Fellowship and Friendship,

President Gwen
