News from the President
#14 2017

Dear Rotarians,

We have been one very busy club as we kick off our holiday season.  Our Rotarian elves will continue tomorrow with our toy drive collection for LAPD'S annual Toy Giveaway.  Please remember to bring an unwrapped toy for a child that we will give to Captain James Roberts of LAPD Pacific Area.  Captain Roberts will be joining us at tomorrow's meeting as our program speaker and we hope to send him away with lots of toys for their Winter Wonderland set for December 9, 2017 at the Station from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Our Rotary teams have also been busy at work delivering the baskets we made at our recent meeting to the 6 families we adopted for the holidays.  We hope you have all met your families by now and we will share at tomorrow's meeting some of the large ticket items for these families in the hopes of getting some leads and connections for these items.   Special thanks to Co-Chairs Monica Trepany and Stephanie Davis for their efforts in selecting our teams, captains and families in getting this very popular program off and running for this 2017 season.

On November 19, 2017 we gathered at the home of Rotarian Gail Brooks and her husband Tom Kartozian in celebration of the upcoming birth of Rotarians Joerg and Greta's baby boy due January 4, 2018.  At the party we shared in hospitality, fun and friendship and showered the Rose's with their first ever baby shower as this tradition is not done in Germany.  Thanks to all who participated and Tom and Gail for opening their home.

And in the midst of all this goodness, we inducted 2 new members, Joseph Hill and Hilton Brown.  Joseph is a business owner specializing in large format printing and Hilton is in sales and marketing.  We welcome these two special gentlemen to our Rotary family!

Rotarian Lucia Diaz of the Mar Vista Family Center was also presented a check at a recent meeting for a $1,000 sponsorship to their Giving Tree project.  We hope many of you can attend the unveiling of the tree at a reception on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Center.

Yes, we are busy elves for this holiday season and will continue to be plenty busy throughout December to make people happy and change lives because that is what Rotarians do.

Please remember to bring your toy tomorrow for the LAPD Toy Drive.  And lastly, a sincere thank you for your spirit of giving and generosity.  Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary is a special group but then you all know that:)

Yours in Fun, Fellowship and Friendship,

President Gwen
