News from the President
#5 2017

Dear Rotarians,

We are back at our beautiful Marina del Rey location for our meeting tomorrow, although I must admit it was interesting to see the newly remodeled Proud Bird Restaurant with all of its aviation history.  Sorry for the inconvenience however we did have a great turnout Thank You!

It was also very special to have to Rob DeCou's mother in town from Port Angeles, WA, join us for the meeting.  Not only did we get to meet Lila but she had the privilege of seeing the club honor her son with Rotarian of the Month for August and watch a very special video that Tony made of Rob and his family!  And speaking of Rob, Kristin and Hudson, they are leaving for Spain this Sunday, September 17 to embark on their next adventure to walk the Camino de Santiago to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.  Rob will not be at our meeting tomorrow and felt bad that he would not have a chance to see everyone before they leave so . . .  we have figured out a way to change that.

This coming Friday evening is the final Food Truck Night of the season at Visitation School from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Visitation is located at 8740 S. Emerson Avenue, Westchester (where we hold Bingo Night and if some of you remember celebrated my birthday last year at Food Truck Night).  There are plenty of trucks with a variety of food to eat, dessert table, music as well as beer and wine bar.  You are invited to join Rob, Kristin and Hudson on Friday at Visitation to say good-by and wish them well on their journey.  Kristin and Hudson will be there about 6:30 and Rob will arrive about 7:00 p.m.  Feel free to stop by at any time to eat, drink and have some fun with your fellow Rotarians at the "DeCou Happy Hour".

One of our favorite programs of Rotary is a member craft talk and tomorrow we will hear from the lovely and vibrant Kayla Friedman-Barb.  Kayla has only been in the club for 2 months however has jumped right in and become one of our top volunteers.  Join us tomorrow to learn more about Kayla!

We had 4 members signed up to attend the Rotary Leadership Training on Saturday, September 16 however it has been postponed.  Will advise of the new date when rescheduled.

The District Literacy Breakfast was this morning and we had 8 in attendance.  It was
very interesting to hear from the Chief of Academic Affairs for LAUSD, Dr. Frances Gipson who is a wealth of information.

Our Membership Retreat Dinner was wonderful last Friday night.  We had just short of 30 in attendance and special thanks to Christina Davis for running a great show!

Hope to see everyone tomorrow!

Yours in Fun, Fellowship and Friendship,

President Gwen
